Chris Wilson designs and builds furniture. With his technical skills refined over several decades and wearing a second hat as a visual artist, the pieces he produces are elegant, bold, colourful, and fun - often all at the same time. They are also supremely functional as settees, chairs, tables or cabinets. Materials range from semi-precious timbers to commercial pine plywood which is brightly stained and lacquered. The sweeping curves of driftwood form the basis of other pieces - pared back, smoothed out and polished; exhibiting some scars but never rustic. As an artist, Chris creates some furniture which is especially at home in an exhibition setting. As a bespoke furniture maker, he will work with clients to design and build unique pieces which suit their needs, or supply them with handmade repeats of some of his existing designs such as chairs. As a skilled designer and technician he can work in with other designers or architects to add his special skills to their projects. Chris seldom carries stock, but is happy for people to visit him at his Marine Parade workshop with tentative enquiries. Please phone or email first.
