Graham Morris
Gisborne

After 45 years of fashion as the fabric buyer and director of his family drapery business, Graham Morris retired. Once in retirement Graham realized that he missed the contact with the public and meeting new people. And so it was that Graham began taking painting classes at the Tairawhiti Polytechnic; learning to paint in watercolours under local tutor Christine King.
Having unearthed a talent for painting in watercolours, Graham decided to further develop his skills and took more classes under well-known Gisborne artist Gavin Smith. With Gavin as his tutor, Graham developed his own style and approach and took to painting landscapes and buildings. Graham is privileged to have also been tutored by the late Peter Brown. "Peter was an artist who painted in the traditional manner. By virtue of his outstanding ability in drawing and perception of form, he captured the essential character of his subjects."
Graham has been commissioned to paint various character homes in and around Gisborne in watercolours and also enjoys capturing the colourful landscapes of Gisborne and the surrounding district. Graham's wife Wendy takes his endeavours one step further, making greetings cards from his originals. These are on sale at selected stores in the city, including Poppy's Bookshop and Paper Plus.
Graham does all his own framing and has a mobile framing business catering to both fellow artists and customers.

Graham exhibits in local exhibitions and often shows his watercolour paintings at local markets and fairs and is always ready to do commission work. To contact Graham for paintings, cards or framing please contact him at the Village Artist on 06 868 5170 or graywendmorris@slingshot.co.nz
