As a child Julia was taught to knit by her grandmother and has since held a fascination for colour and pattern. She loves to experiment with the effect of weaving different colours and materials together.
Julia first studied weaving at the Nelson Polytechnic, where she learnt hand-loom techniques and later learnt to weave flax from Kimi Doel in Tokomaru Bay. As any regular browser in the Tairawhiti Museum gallery shop would know, Julia's weaving represents a continual journey of fresh ideas, colours, patterns and textures.
