Jennie Warren
Gisborne

Jennie was born and raised in the Gisborne region. She married Terry and together they raised three adult children and they also have three grandchildren. Jennie likes it that she has her extended family living locally.
Jennie has always had an interest in visual arts and she likes to experiment with the many art forms that exist. Her works can be made from pastels, water based oils, acrylics and even mosaic through to her interesting abstract works made from hot coloured wax.
Jennie finds the hot coloured wax process particularly fascinating. To create these works, she uses a process of hot irons and natural bees wax to draw her images on card, canvas and various supports. The result is an attractive range of abstract designs and bright colourful original paintings.
For her subject matter, Jennie likes to paint landscapes, portraits, figures, nudes and abstracts. She likes the symbolic elements of Earth, Wind, Fire and Rain, and also the ancient mandala (circle) which represents wholeness and harmony of the individual.
"Art is full of emotion - enjoy it, savour it, appreciate it. It can sadden, challenge, interest or mystify but on the whole art should make you feel good."
Jennie also creates ceramic pieces, and this aspect of her work can be viewed as part of the local Artists Society Exhibition. Mainly self taught, Jennie has also pursued studies in Visual Arts here in Gisborne, and also at the College of Design and Art in Christchurch. In 2001 she completed her Commercial Art studies and has her own working studio at her residence located in Gisborne.
