Nick is a busy busy man. Which is why he is currently installing a kitchen and lounge in his studio, "so that my folk at home can be comfortable when they come to visit me." On occasion he crashes out at his studio after completely losing track of time.
However, he is not necessarily a late night owl by nature. By day Nick is the Maori Liaison Officer for the Gisborne District Council, is also a specialist in rock art conservation and extends these skills to the restoration of wharenui (meeting houses), heritage and art collections. His excitement at getting his working studio functional, as a creative respite from the business end of his working day is thus palpable and utterly understandable. Nick is committed to his practice as an artist and has been dreaming and scheming about how he can have it all.
Thoroughly professional in his approach to his work, true quality is apparent when you contemplate one of the many forms of Nick's craftsmanship; whether it is carved in wood, stone, glass, bone, shell, or perspex or Ta Moko, painted, woven, designed, written, or an exhibition he has curated. Nick embraces every opportunity he is given to create authentic, quality Maori art.
Some of Nick's latest works were exhibited in PULSE at the New Zealand Fine Arts Academy Gallery in Wellington and with exhibitions planned for the near future at the Tairawhiti Museum, Wellington and Auckland as well as international travel in 2008, interested buyers would be well advised to get in line now...Watch this space.
