Phoebe Tanner
Gisborne

Phoebe Tanner is an Artist and Photographer and has been painting and taking photographs for as long as she can remember.
Phoebe trained at Falmouth University in England, and after also completing her teachers training she worked as an Art Teacher for a year before immigrating to New Zealand in 2005. Phoebe has sold work privately in the UK and took part in the 2003 'New Designers' Exhibition in London. She continues to sell photography through a gallery in England and is currently working on a body of art work that she intends to exhibit later this year at the Verve Café and in the Womens Art Exhibition.
Phoebe works from her studio space in Wainui where she also paints; her style varies intuitively from abstract to realism and she mostly paints landscapes and seascapes inspired by the beauty of the surrounding area.
She also makes commissioned 'belly casts', casting pregnant women and then turning the cast into a work of art, so that her subjects can celebrate and remember their pregnant form. Using a special effects gel to capture all the details of the body enables her to place very little stress on the model. She then uses the mould to cast the sculpture from gypsum cement, painting the final relief in styles to suit.
Phoebe doesn't restrict herself to just one or even two artistic practices. She currently has two businesses, 'artistsbloc' and 'Beautiful Day Photography', which she manages with her partner Tim Gander.
Phoebe and Tim sell their contemporary photo-artworks through artistsbloc and with Beautiful Day Photography they shoot photojournalism-style wedding and portrait photography, aiming to be as close to 'flies on the wall' as is humanly possible, capturing events stylishly and naturally, without fuss.

If you would like to purchase a photo-bloc, commission a painting or a belly cast, please contact Phoebe for details either by phone or email: (06) 868 7144 (home), 021 142 2142, artistsbloc@hotmail.com
or beautifuldayphotos@hotmail.com for wedding and portrait photography.

Phoebe also sells her photo-blocks in several shops in Gisborne and sells privately from home and her studio.
