Susie Hamilton is a self-confessed country girl. When she begins to describe the way an average day on the farm might unfold however, it is soon apparent that a day's work in the country does not only consist of swandries, gumboots and heavy machinery..
Susie's mornings on the farm that was once her Grandfather's are usually jumpstarted, literally, on the back of the horse she is training at the time. After a few hours of farm work alongside her father Susie then retreats to the outhouse where Susie carries out a less usual kind of farm activity...
Formerly the shepherd's residence, a few alterations and licks of paint by Susie have seen it reincarnated as a studio and it is here that Susie will often spend much of the rest of the afternoon painting her heart out; old school tunes wafting around her and historical figures floating around in her head.
Old farming tools, oilskins, cowboy hats, old pots and kettles, wool sheds and other farm buildings - the objects of her surroundings, the paraphernalia of her life on the farm, form the subject matter and inspiration for Susie's paintings and other such objects such as sheets of corrugated iron and sacking will often find themselves appropriated as the materials and surfaces of the works themselves..
Winter tends to be her most productive time of the year, as summers are dominated by showjumping - her other driving passion.
