Creative Space – Tairawhiti Community Arts & Craft Studio
Established in 2004, Creative Space is a charitable trust, which runs a much-valued community studio and public gallery for the people of Tairawhiti.
Creative Space offers a varied programme of arts and crafts workshops run by established local artists and tutors. While these cater largely to adults throughout the week, the weekends are dedicated to families, children and young people with free arts workshops on Saturdays.
Based in the centre of Gisborne, Creative Space provides activities for creative expression, learning and community involvement. Their aim is to ensure people enjoy their experience, strengthen confidence and gain positive outcomes for themselves. Enabling members to achieve their goals through the provision of information, learning, networks and opportunities for personal and artistic development, the friendly staff team deliver a unique social support service and advocacy that’s inclusive and suits individual needs.
Their ‘Stepping Stones’ option for self referral makes sure those facing disabilities like mental illness, brain injury, learning difficulties and social disadvantage find access easy and joining in, fun. Creative Space can provide a meaningful role in the journeys of their members to full independence, community participation, volunteering and employment.
At Creative Space you can expect a safe, non-competitive and non-threatening environment. A place you’ll receive a warm welcome, mutual respect and consideration from others. The central focus is placed upon creative potential, not your health.
Creative Space invites applications for membership and will do their best to accommodate those they believe will most likely gain the greatest benefit.
