Tranquility Base Recording Studio can be found in the high country back blocks, at an altitude of approximately 420 metres with a backdrop of mountainous ranges as far as the eye can see.
Here, the owner and operator of the studio, Drew Kirk offers a retreat from the rush and distractions of the city, where musicians can find inspiration in the quiet rural environment, and focus on recording their music. Tranquility Base Studio prides itself as an excellent quality project studio, capable of recording any music genre, listening to what each unique artist wants to capture, composing soundtrack music, and has equipment to perform audio restoration and archive work such as; Tape to CD, reel to CD, and LP to CD.
Drew spent his early musical career performing throughout NZ and in Gisborne as a drummer and bass player for many successful local bands. He also spent many hours as a session musician at Gisborne's 'Capture Recordings' in the early 1980's and featured on many 45's and LP's of that time.
Many Gisborne people will know Drew as the founder of 'The Music Factory' a shop which he operated from 2001 to 2006. Since selling the business, Andy has established 'Tranquility Base Recordings and Promotions', which he describes as his return to the more creative side of the music industry.
Drew has recently recorded such bands and soloists as; Twang Grunty, Valve, Metaphor, The Nervous surgeons, Dave Galanin AKA Strumin Dog, Miranda Gray-Taufa, award winning Gisborne Girls High Compilation CD 1999, Wairoa College recordings for the national 'Play It Strange' compilation CD's 2005 and 2006, Danny Larson, John JD Scott, Malachi, and more.
The cottage studio has full kitchen and bathroom facilities, and a BBQ, swimming pool and large surrounding decks which make summer recordings a dream, while two fires keep the studio toasty in winter.
