Youth Arts Awards
Gisborne

Gisborne's Youth Arts Awards have been a part of Gisborne's arts landscape for some years now. This year its organisers have taken a fresh look at the event, with a new venue, new format and an amazing package of prizes for the winners.
Last year the entire event was run by a group of senior students from the local high school with the idea of exposing them to the realities of organising such an event..from begging for funds to donning a top hat as the Master of Ceremonies to cleaning up afterwards. In 2007 the theme of replicating 'real life' experiences continues but this year the focus is firmly on the art itself.
This year students are required to submit their works in the format typically required for professional art competitions or when dealing with Art Galleries. Six winners over two categories (2D & 3D) will be selected to exhibit their works at the Pencil Gallery in Gisborne over a three-day period, entering into a temporary artist contract with the Gallery. The winners will also have the opportunity to participate in the photographing of their works for a catalogue as well as give their two cents worth in the curation of the show.
The Youth Arts Awards Exhibition will take place at The Pencil Gallery from the 5th to the 7th of October 2007 with the Awards being presented at the Exhibition Opening on Friday October 5 at the Pencil Gallery. Images of all of the other entries will projected onto one of the Gallery walls for the duration of the exhibition.
