LABOUR OF LOVE Saturday 20 October 2007
Labour of Love is an outdoor concert that will stretch from the afternoon till evening on the Saturday before the Gisborne Wine & Food Festival on Labour Weekend this year. To be held at the Soundshell, it will be a party to share with family and friends with great music, from Evermore, Carly Binding and Blackbird, and in support of a good cause or two.
The concert will be an Oxjam event to raise awareness for Oxfams Make Fair Trade campaign. Oxjam is a nationwide month of music with a message, help end poverty by making trade fair. From classical to club night folk, funk and punk, it all adds up to one huge New Zealand-wide party against poverty in October. Labour of Love will also raise money for the Poverty Bay Rugby Union, helping the region to be a host city for the Rugby World Cup in 2011 with $5 from every ticket donated to the PBRU.
Headline act Evermore are an Australian based Kiwi rock band with 300 live shows, an MTV Award, a NZ Music Award, the APRA Silver Scroll, and five ARIA nominations to their name. Carly Binding has also been in the limelight of late with her hit song So Radiate and a recent move to Los Angeles. Local act Blackbird play a hybrid of "sun-soaked riffs and acoustic swing, together with a splash of reggae and served on a platter of delicious rhythms". Their sound is said to transport the listener to a beachside campfire..Highlights of their set include some beautifully played harmonica solos, wailing reverbed guitar, live didgeridoo and a never-ending bag of magical tricks dipped into at will by percussionist Nego Beto.
Gates open at 4pm and the event will finish at 10.30pm. Tickets are on sale now for $30 and can be purchased via tickets.zillionstars.com or www.ticketmaster.co.nz or drop into Gisborne Liquorland.
