Apply now for the Ministry of Education's 2008 Artists in Schools programme

The Ministry of Education's Artists in Schools programme creates the opportunity for practising professional artists in the fields of dance, drama, music, and visual arts to work with young people in New Zealand primary and secondary schools.

It involves schools and communities in creative projects while providing students, teachers and artists with diverse and challenging learning experiences. The programme generates innovative ways to engage students from Year 1 to year 13 across the arts disciplines within the curriculum.

The Artists in Schools programme provides funding of $800 a week, up to a maximum of $8,000, for an artist to work with students and teachers for a period of up to 10 weeks. Schools will be given a grant of $250 a week, up to a maximum of $2,500 for the full 10 week period. The grant to schools will cover resources such as materials, costumes, or instrument hire needed for a project.

The Ministry of Education welcomes applications from New Zealand primary and secondary state and integrated schools.

Applications from schools seeking funding for projects in 2008 are to be submitted electronically by 28 February 2008. All applicants will be notified of decisions in March 2008.

Interested artists and schools should go to the website to download expressions of interest and application forms: http://arts.unitec.ac.nz/artistsinschools/
