'TE HAERENGA - THE JOURNEY', artworks by Nick Tupara are installed at Cafe Ruba through January 2008.
An exhibition of recent paintings and carvings where Nick looks into the 'human journey' of settlement and re-settlement and give recognition to all those who choose to make the Tairawhiti their home. He includes in this story a three-metre high feather carved from wood that talks of migration, paintings using metallic colours mixed with timber stains and wash effects discussing identity; a waka paddle has been fashioned from kauri that speaks of a journey; and for 'Polynesian Triangle' Nick uses three-dimensional effects which recounts places of origin.
