New Summer Exhibition, Taimoana Art Studio, Opoutama, Mahia

Husband and wife team, Ngaromoana Raureti & Mahea Tomoana welcome the public to visit their Taimoana Art Studio over the summer months. An exhibition of fresh paintings, prints, sculptures & carvings created by the artistic couple and other artists is on show. Included among the new works are carvings made from Oamaru stone, by local artist Trevor Sparks.

Protest and Partnerships, features a photographic journey and moving images from historical protests and partnerships.

Artists include: John Miller, Jo Tito, Kahu Scott , Ngaroimata Winiata and Pita Turei.

New Date for Jess Feast Documentary Workshop Thursday 13th March

Due to unforeseen circumstances the date for the Jess Feast Documentary workshop has now been changed to Thursday 13th March. The workshop was previously going to be held on Feb 20th. Apologies for any inconvenience caused, however please mark the new date in your diaries if you would like to attend.


Improve your skills in developing documentary ideas into successful props and funding proposals.

Time: 10.30am – 5pm

Venue: Te Puni Kokiri office, Nga Wai e Rua Building, Cnr Lowe St and Reeds Quay, Gisborne.

Catering: Morning tea and Lunch will be provided.

Please bring with you: Any ideas or written proposals for your documentaries. Jess is keen to help workshop any proposals you have developed in a confidential and supportive environment.

New Gallery now Open

The new outpost of The Pencil Gallery is now open down at the Wharf. Go and check it out, a great range of works by their favourite artists, including sculptures by Johnny Turner..

Open at unusual hours, not infrequent hours.

Waitangi Day at Waikirikiri

KaPai Kaiti is again preparing for the annual Waitangi Day Community Festival, which will be held at Waikirikiri Reserve on the corner of Tyndall Road and Dalton Street in Kaiti on Wednesday the 6th of February 2008, from 10am to 3pm.

There will be a great line up of performers, artists, ideas people, historians and show-offs to entertain, inform and inspire.

As usual there will be live entertainment on the stage, the Treaty Trivia Quiz, games and activities for the kids and heaps of food vendors and information stalls by local organisations.

Gisborne District Council will also be there to get your ideas on the future of the city. Make sure you are there to have a say!

This year there will also be a screen-printing space for people who want to get a KAITI FOR LIFE stencil designed by Mel Tahata printed onto a shirt. BYO TShirt..

'TE HAERENGA - THE JOURNEY' at Cafe Ruba

'TE HAERENGA - THE JOURNEY', artworks by Nick Tupara are installed at Cafe Ruba through January 2008.

An exhibition of recent paintings and carvings where Nick looks into the 'human journey' of settlement and re-settlement and give recognition to all those who choose to make the Tairawhiti their home. He includes in this story a three-metre high feather carved from wood that talks of migration, paintings using metallic colours mixed with timber stains and wash effects discussing identity; a waka paddle has been fashioned from kauri that speaks of a journey; and for 'Polynesian Triangle' Nick uses three-dimensional effects which recounts places of origin.

The Pencil Gallery is alive and kicking!

Just to let you know that Matty and Gene have not let a bit of earth shake stand in the way of a damn fine exhibition. New Drawings by James F. Ormsby and 'Legacy' by Glen Mills opened at The Pencil Gallery on Friday and will be showing until January 27. Also, stand by for further details about a new gallery space in the pipeline.

kapai Kaiti February 6th - Artists Stalls required

Kapai Kaiti on February 6th, Waitangi Day, is going to be another day of fun and learning for families and individuals alike, with activities focused on our national day and the Treaty of Waitangi.

ARTISTS - especially if you live in and around Kaiti, (or not as the case may be) contact the Creative Tairawhiti office if you are interested in having a display stall to sell and show your work from as part of the days activities.

There will be an abundance of people and if the weather continues it promises to be a great day.
